S.I.T.-R.E.P.
2026 National Police Week, Washington D.C.
I am giving this message not only as a career law enforcement officer, instructor, and training specialist but as a grieving father having lost his eldest child and only son to a needless act of intentional violence for which there is no logical explanation.
We never know which tour of duty will be our last. Therefore, never pass up a chance to hug a friend, to kiss a loved one goodbye, or say I love you to someone dear to your heart. The last words Grant said to Lori and I were, “I love ya’ll.” That was just a days before his death. Grant said something else that I would like to share with you.
He said, “You know Dad, it’s scary how many people have no real concept of what this job (police work) is all about. It’s not about raging gun battles, high-speed pursuits, how many arrests you make, how many crimes you solve, or how many tickets you write.
It’s about long hours of constantly dealing with the personal suffering of others and having to relive that pain throughout the investigation and court proceedings. It’s about knowing all too well that no matter how hard we try, or how well we train, sometimes things will go wrong and there is nothing we can do about it. It’s about doing your very best every day and trying to make it home to your family. It’s about service and compassion. If we can make a positive impact on just one person’s life each day, then we have made that person a little bit better. We have made ourselves a little better. And we have made society a little better. Just so you can do it all over again tomorrow.”
That’s it in a nutshell; to make the world a better, safer place, to do what many people say is impossible. That’s why cops do what we do.
So, as you prepare for your next shift, to go out and make the impossible possible remember this: It’s ok to struggle, it’s ok to hurt, it’s ok to cry, it’s ok to fail. But quitting is not an option. Keep Moving Forward. As Grant often said, “When life closes a door, breach the wall and walk in like a boss!”
So, as we honor our fallen brothers and sisters this week, let us also honor the Blue Star families, the survivors left behind. For they too have made the ultimate sacrifice. John, Chapter 15, verse 13, says, “Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends.”
And let us all remember, “It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived.”
May God above bless all first responders, their families, the United States of America.

Using Integrated Force in Response to Resistive Behavior
One of the best training courses I've attended. The group exercises and case studies were on point and made the legal side of use of force much easier to understand.
K. Johnson, Ville Platte, LA.
Introduction to Adult Learning Concepts & Principles for Instructors
I thoroughly enjoyed this course because it forced me to get out of my comfort zone. Mark did an outstanding job presenting the material and overcame obstacles that were beyond his control.
